It is with careful consideration that I write this review. To start, the location is good: close to Danforth, the subway, and a short drive to the lake, beaches and boardwalk. The apartment is bright and clean. However the stairs are super narrow, steep, and shallow (probably not up to code). Be careful going up and down. The communication with host prior to us checking in was fantastic. That’s where things end the positivity of our experience.
1. On the afternoon we checked in, we tried to log in to the Nest site to be able to change the temperature in the apartment. There are two levels and the main level was very cold and the upstairs very hot. I tried several times to log in either through the main site and by downloading the Nest app (as had been suggested by our host) and were unsuccessful. I tried contacting hosts through phone calls (kept getting VM) and texts, to no avail.
2. Parking: the parking assigned for the unit was suddenly not available. Again I tried contacting host regarding the parking and did not get a response. I had to park on the street, convince a police officer not to give us a ticket, and ultimately purchased on-street parking from the city.
3. Essentials: the bare minimum, no extras of anything – 2 bath towels & 1 face towel in the bathroom, 2 garbage pails with no garbage bags (had to buy garbage bags). No kitchen towels in the kitchen (had to buy a couple along with paper towels). No blankets other than the one blanket on the bed – the main floor was very cold but no blankets for the couch.
If you are here for one or two days, the bare minimum is ok. We were here for 4 nights. If there had been prompt communication regarding the Nest and the parking, everything else would have seemed less important, but we had to go out of our way to purchase parking, and some missing essential. In short, the price we paid was not worth the value of what we got. It was not until the day we checked out that she responded angrily over my request for money back. This is now being disputed with Airbnb.
